The sculptor Frederic Marès (1893-1991) assembled an extensive collection of Hispanic sculpture, from ancient times to the 19th century, in which religious polychrome carving predominates. He gave this collection to the city along with some of his own sculptural work.
The Museu Frederic Marès, opened in 1948, also has the Collector’s Cabinet, comprising several rooms displaying everyday objects from the 19th century, many of which are considered decorative art pieces.
