Museu Tàpies

The Museu Tàpies brings together experts from various fields, encouraging collaboration to deepen public understanding of contemporary art and ideas. The museum combines research with publishing to offer new insights into Tàpies’ legacy, and hosts temporary exhibitions focused on Antoni Tàpies and other artists, along with a range of educational and public programmes.

The Fundació Antoni Tàpies (Antoni Tàpies Foundation) was founded by the artist in 1984 to advance the research and understanding of modern and contemporary art. Home to one of the most comprehensive collections of Antoni Tàpies’ work, the museum opened its doors on 5 June 1990 in Barcelona’s Eixample district, in the premises of the former Montaner y Simón publishing house, which was designed by the modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. During the centenary celebrations of the artist’s birth, the Fundació Antoni Tàpies, managed by Imma Prieto, changed its name and renewed its identity to become the Museu Tàpies.
