THE MARICEL COMPLEX

In 1910, the American millionaire Charles Deering, after discovering Sitges through his friend, the painter Ramon Casas, bought the old Sant Joan Baptista hospital, a building of medieval origin located above the rocks, as well as the old houses found around the old square of Sant Joan. The person in charge of the project was Miquel Utrillo.

Currently known as the Museu de Maricel, it displays a complete artistic itinerary from the 10th century to Realism and figurative art from the first half of the 20th century, through the art collections of Dr Jesús Pérez-Rosales and of Sitges, with works of the highest quality.

Connected by a bridge over Calle Fonollar, we have the Palau de Maricel, or Maricel de Terra, designed to be a space for social use and to exhibit the Deering art collection that he finally bequeathed.

MUSEU ROMÀNTIC CAN LLOPIS

This perfectly preserved 19th century house allows us to get closer to the way of life of the family of Catalan owners, whose heyday was during the years of Romanticism.

The Museu Romàntic was first opened in 1949. It has been successively enlarged with a series of dioramas illustrating different episodes of life in the last century, as well as popular Catalan traditions and with the collection of dolls from the artist Lola Anglada, which brings together more than four hundred pieces from different countries, many of which are from the Romantic period.
